Traditional arts and crafts can be found in every region of Japan. Especially popular, is the technique of “Urushi-nuri”, Lacquer Coating, and examples of this lacqureware can be found throughtout Japan.

“Wajima-nuri” is a form of lacqureware produced in Wajima-city, Ishikawa Prefecture which can be dated back to the Heian-era. To acknowledge the skilled work of Wajima-nuri maki-e craftman, Sailor is pleased to announce the launch of the “Wajima Bijou” fountain pen which has been designed with jewelry in mind. The boarder patter of the barrel, the top of cap and the bottlme of the barrel are finished using a color representing a jewel and mother-of-Pearl. Every jewel stone has its own meaning and these fountain pens are designed witch this in mind. “Bijou” means jewel in French.
